It is used to kill a wide range of bacterial infection in various parts of the body in adults and children. It is used in the treatment of complicated infections in the stomach, urinary tract, skin and soft tissue, lung infections (pneumonia) or infections during or post-delivery.

It may be used to treat patients with low white blood cell count having fever that may be caused due to a bacterial infection or in patients having bacterial infection of blood.
